click to download18th May: Walk to School Week
I am writing to let you know about some of the activities that are taking place in school to celebrate 'Walk to School Week'. Although the 'official' event is the 21st-25th May, we are postponing ours until just after half term, as there are already so many activities planned for next week - KS1 SATs, Upper School cricket, May Day and school photos to name but a few.
click to download9th May: Italian Family Hosting!
This year, for the first time, we would like to welcome an Italian family for a visit to Chesterton School in July.
click to download9th May: May Day: Thursday 24th May
As in previous years, we are holding our May Day festivities a little later in the month – on the last Thursday of Term 5. This should give us a better chance of warmer weather (although the beginning of May hasn’t done badly so far!) and also keeps us clear of the very busy build up to SATs tests.

We are holding a 'Travelling Books' book fair here at school which will run from Wednesday 16th May to Tuesday 22rd May, straight after school.

Although the wet and cold weather doesn’t seem to have completed disappeared quite yet, we are planning to bring our morning run, based on the Daily Mile initiative, out of winter hibernation from next week!

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you about Chesterton School’s agreed dress code if you are purchasing items of new uniform over the Easter holidays or Summer Term. Although we are generally very happy with the appearance of our pupils, there have been a few interesting items creeping in! Therefore, we felt that it would be helpful for parents, pupils and teachers if we clarified some areas.

As you may know, we hold an after school Choir Club for children in Year Three to Six on a Tuesday. The club will re-start again after Easter beginning from Tuesday 17th April and will run from 3.15 – 4.15pm. Following this term’s great success at the recent Children Singing for Children Concert, we would like to invite more children to join choir.

This year, Chesterton School are really excited to be raising money for Sport Relief 2018! As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise money and change lives. .

Firstly, I must begin by saying a big 'congratulations' to the choir for their fantastic performance at 'Children Singing for Children' last week. They worked so hard to prepare and did a fantastic job of singing beautifully. We were very proud of them, as I’m sure you were too.

The annual 'World Book Day' is fast approaching and we are busy planning to a 'Book Week' in school running from Monday 26th February through to Friday 2nd March. Although Thursday 1st March is officially World Book Day, we will be holding book related activities throughout the entire week.

Please find attached a poster for a Valentine's Bake Off Workshop run by Smart Raspberry on Wednesday 14th February. Smart Raspberry have run a number of clubs at Chesterton School in the past and their sessions are highly recommended.

We have been given the opportunity to take some of our choir members and musicians to watch The County Music Service Schools’ Concert at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford on Friday 26th January.

click to download1st Nov: Phonics & Spelling
As you may be aware, we begin most days by teaching pupils in Phonics groups. The children work in small groups across school, focusing on the appropriate different spelling patterns and letter sounds. This is a well-established, successful routine throughout school and the children really benefit from working in their Phonics groups.

Please find attached information an entry form for a Bicester Athletic Club cross country fun run at Bicester Sports Association, Chesterton on Sunday 10th December. The event is held in memory of Andy Reading, a keen runner and member of B.A.C., who, as many of you will know, was also Headteacher of our school from 1979-1991.
