Autumn Term |
Beech Class Reading and Phonics - (posted 12th September) We hope that you have had a lovely start to the term. We have been enjoying getting to know the children - they are settling into Year One so well! We have started our Guided Reading sessions this week and all of the children will bring home a Bug Club book today. These are the books that we would like the children to use to practise decoding the words (sounding out and blending). We have spoken with Miss Spencer about the reading groups and books that the children had in Maple, and have tried to match that as closely as possible. However, there may be some overlap and your child might bring home a book that they have read before. The colour banded books that the children took home last week are purely for enjoyment and discussion, with you doing the reading for them (unless they are keen to read themselves!). We have also attached a list of spellings for the children to learn and practise with you at home. They are matched to our Bug Club Phonics lessons, so that you can see the sounds that we will be focussing on each week of the term. We will have a go at our first spelling test on Friday 19th September. Please reassure your child that they don't need to worry about getting 10/10! We just want them to give the spellings a go and try their best. Please note that we plan on grouping the children for Phonics so that they are taught appropriate sounds for their current level. There may be a different set of spellings for some children, so we will be in touch if this is relevant to your child. Many thanks for all of your support. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions, or require a paper copy of the spelling words. Best wishes, Miss Chadwick and Mrs Leonard |
